The Institute of Social Ecology is a subdivision of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies (ISE) at Klagenfurt University that maintains sites in Vienna, Graz and Klagenfurt. Research and teaching at the Institute of Social Ecology deals with the interrelationship of social and natural systems in the context of sustainable development. Research is structured into four main fields (i) Social Metabolism, (ii) Land Use and Colonization of Ecosystems, (iii) Historical Sustainability Research, and (iv) Sustainability Transitions. Researchers come from interdisciplinary backgrounds such as biology, ecology, sociology, anthropology and technical sciences. UNI-KLU leads the WP1 (Socio-ecological transition and employment implications).
